30amp Ford F-150 Lightning and F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid w/Pro Power Onboard Generator Adapter Extension Cord | Customize Your Own
NEW 8 Gauge Heavier Cable Option Available!
This is the 30amp Generator Adapter Extension Cord Customize Your Own Page, here you pick your own Plug and Outlets amongst many choices, this is offered as an easier alternative to looking through our catalog for a pre-configured Adapters and Extension Cords to fit your needs.
This Adapter/Extension cord is designed specifically with the correct Twist-Lock connector to plug into your Ford F-150 Lightning with 9.6 Kilowatt Pro Power Onboard and F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid when equipped with the 7.2 Kilowatt Pro Power Onboard. It may also be used with portable Generators equipped with a NEMA L14-30 (240volt 30amp) outlet. This cable is built with my Super Flex rubber cable in your choice of 30amp 10 gauge cable or 40amp 8 gauge cable. At longer lengths voltage drop can be an issue so we are now offering Heavy Duty custom extension cords built with one size heavier cable. Constructed of heavy 40amp 8 gauge cable to minimize voltage drop. This is most beneficial to loads with a high startup draw like air conditioners and other high-inductive loads. This is still meant to be used as a 30amp cable for 24amp continuous or lower load following the NEC's 80% rule of thumb. Quality construction! I custom build these cables here in the USA, constructed using my super flexible black rubber cord with quality name brand connectors on the ends, not cheap ones with PVC jacketed wire. My cable also has a full sized Neutral wire, not one size smaller like mass produced cords. Need a 20amp non Twist-Lock version? click here: 20amp EV Adapter Extension Cord Customize Your Own
NEMA L14-30 Twist-Lock with FLOATING GROUND and NEMA SS2-50R / CS6364 Twist-Lock with FLOATING GROUND for home power backup: When one of these outlets are selected above, this adapter extension version allows you to connect your Ford Pro Power Onboard system to a Generator inlet that feeds your circuit breaker panel (via an Interlock kit or Transfer Switch) and NOT trip the Ford Pro Power Onboard system GFCI. NO special wiring of your Generator inlet or breaker panel is necessary. The Ford system has a bonded Neutral-Ground system already and there can be only ONE bond in the system. Homes also have this bond for safe use with the utility grid. By custom building this 30amp Generator Adapter Extension Cord with a FLOATING ground the Ford Pro Power Onboard system as well as any portable Generator with a GFCI can work happily with a home circuit breaker panel without any additional hardware or modification. Note: that this configuration makes this cable unique and won't function like a typical extension cord when used by itself, for example standalone on a job site with a load that looks for and requires a ground from the generator like an Electric Vehicle car charger (EVSE) as this cord doesn't pass the ground to the female end. This is only an issue if your load REQUIRES a ground to function. All OpenEVSE brand EVSE have the ability to turn off Ground Check in their menu.
The NEMA SS2-50R / CS6364 Twist-Lock outlet's center pin is removable if your SS2-50P / CS6365 plug doesn't have the hole in the center to accept it.
If you are just looking for a quality adapter extension and won't be connecting it to your home building wiring then select one of the options under Outlet marked Standard wiring 4-conductors straight through. These cords pass all 4 conductors through like a traditional extension cord.
Need some help identifying your wall outlet? We can help! Below is a description of the more common NEMA outlets and their numbers as well as some handy NEMA plug charts. You can also email us a pic of your plugs and outlets you need help identifying and we would be happy to help.
Here are the more common NEMA outlets:
- 6-30 standard 30A 240 volt 3-prong outlet, found in shops and garages used for medium size welders.
- 6-50 standard 50A 240 volt 3-prong outlet, found in shops and garages used for large welders.
- 10-30 standard 30A 240 volt 3-prong Dryer outlet found in homes build before 1996
- 14-30 standard 30A 240 volt 4-prong Dryer outlet found in homes build in 1996 and newer
- 14-50 standard 50A 240 volt 4-prong Range (electric stove top) outlet, also called RV-50 at the RV parks. By far the best universal connector to have for an EVSE. This is the one the Tesla guys install in their garages.
- TT-30 (Travel Trailer 30amp) 30A 120 volt 3-prong outlet, the older style found in RV parks, not used in residential homes.
- L14-30 (locking 240 volt 30amp) 4-prong Twist-Lock generator outlet, found on medium to large Generators, works great for adding extensions and adapters to portable Generators equipped with a L14-30 outlet.
- L6-30 (locking 240 volt 30amp) 3-prong Twist-Lock outlet, my personal favorite locking connector, easy to find in stores, works great for adding adapters to portables EVSE’s equipped with a L6-30 plug.
220/240 volt outlets are commonly install with the ground pin towards the ceiling for safety. 110/120 volt outlets can be found mounted in all directions. Be sure to carefully look at your outlet and the chart, it's easy to mistake one outlet for another if your outlet has it's ground pin facing the floor instead of the ceiling or Vice Versa compared to the chart.
In the full NEMA number you will see a capital R or P. The R stands for Receptacle (outlet) and the P stands for Plug, we commonly truncate this to just the numbers and add the word receptacle (or outlet) at the end. For example 14-50R becomes 14-50 receptacle or 14-50 outlet.
